I used to teach the legacy of Residential Schools in my high school classroom by focusing on the horrors of our treatment of Indigenous children.  After taking the Facing History and Ourselves Stolen Lives course, I have dramatically changed the way I present ideas to the class, with a focus on helping students to understand the impact of Residential Schools on their own individual and collective identity.  With this new focus, I see students making personal connections and seeing opportunities to stand up for those who were directly impacted by this historical legacy.  I will share with you some of my lesson ideas that can also relate to the teaching of other events such as the Nazi Genocide or slavery. It is hoped you can incorporate some of these lesson ideas into your own classroom by providing you with digital resources.
